Rendered in the artist’s unmistakable emotive style, this set of aquatints depicts circus performers, each figure thickly outlined in black as they perform for the audience. Dancers, horseback riders and clowns are simplified into contoured forms that exemplify Rouault’s background as a glass painter.

Executed in 1930, this set of aquatints on BFK Rives is each signed and dated in the plate. Each plate measures 9 x 13 inches. Each with pale time staining, otherwise in overall good condition.
